Phantom and Monsters is a popular blog both here in the UK and Worldwide. A recent article on the sighting of a “doglike” creature was reported in Finland, as more and more European Accounts come along it seems these strange Canine Creatures are being reported worldwide.
I recently came across the following account:
So about 2 years ago, I had an encounter with something I can’t explain and the reason I’m writing this is because I saw some strange footprints yesterday where I encountered it 2 years ago. (I live in Finland, near the coast)
Two years ago, I was out hunting and it was getting late and dark so I decided to head back home. I had about 2-3 km walk through the forest to get to my car. It had gotten pitch black outside at this point so I had an LED headlamp for light as I walked.
As I walked I kept hearing unusually loud sounds. I knew something big was moving. I was 100% sure it was a moose as I’ve encountered lots of them in the forest and they do make lots of noise/vibrations when they walk.
I couldn’t see anything though and it was getting closer to me. All of a sudden this super awful smell hits me, it smells like feces and something really rotten. My hair stands up and I raise my shotgun, as my whole body instinctively tells me to run.
I just stand still and listen. As the sounds get closer I see what looks like a humanoid figure standing on two feet, really tall, it had to be easily over 2 meters, but slender and muscular at the same time and kind of crouched down posture. It looked almost like a werewolf from movies, but at the same time not. It was quite far away, so my light barely went so far, but I could see it. Its eyes shined red from my LED headlamp as well.
It looked at me for about 3 seconds, made no sounds, it was breathing weirdly. (I think it could smell the two ducks I had in my backpack) It slowly walked away. I even filmed a bit as it started walking with my phone, but it’s poor quality as my phone at the time was old (Samsung S2) and it was dark, so you can’t really see it, just hear lots of noise.
Anyway, I told some friends and fellow hunters. A couple have heard or seen strange things as well, but nothing like this. Bos
In March of 2013 a 17 year old student by the name of Terri Leigh Cox noticed a creature bounding around the playing fields just outside her house in Dorchester, Dorset. Miss Cox’s description of the sighting in her own words was; “it was such a shock. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing at first. It looked about the size of a small gorilla. It was walking like one as well, using its arms and feet. It was definitely a monkey because you could tell by its hunched back and the way it scampered across a field and up a tree. It wasn’t a black
On the North West Coast of Scotland not only are there many Lochs, there are also many accounts of strange creatures and paranormal experiences around the Lochs themselves. On land as old as time its no wonder strange anomalies pop up consistently, but on one lone Loch we have experiences that are exactly 4 years apart to the day.
Cannock Chase is an area of woodland and heath land which has been designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is located between Stafford and Cannock and covers an area of about 26 square miles. Years ago it became familiar to many people when a series of murders took place here, three girls were murdered and buried on the Chase. Raymond Leslie Morris, a motor engineer from Walsall, was found guilty at Stafford assizes of one of the murders in 1968 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is still in prison over 40 years later as one of the country’s longest serving prisoners. However moving further forward in time a series of strange events seem to have been centred around this location known as Cannock Chase, what follows are extracts from newspapers which have reported on these strange events.
Below are a series of articles that have appeared in the Cannock Chase Post and Birmingham Post.
Panther alert on new sightings 1 September 2005
Sightings of a snarling, black panther sparked a police search this week as terrified residents steered clear of Cannock Chase.
Tuesday saw the latest in a long history of panther sightings on the ancient woodland.
Eyewitnesses have told us of a large, muscular, black cat, roughly three feet long, prowling through the woodlands near Cannock Chase Enterprise Centre.
Terrified witnesses fled as the beast came within metres of them, seeming to appear from nowhere.
Eu vi Bigfoot no Brasil. Mr. Luis B.T., a well-known jeweler and native artisan of the 9th Region, retold a strange experience that befell his son-in-law in the winter of 2006.
Luis’s son-in-law, a truck driver with an erratic schedule, could not believe what he was seeing on the road in June 2006 near midnight between a stretch of road from Los Angeles to Muchén. On that day he wasn’t carrying an assistant, so there are no other witnesses to his observation. But he does remember driving at an average speed without any further remarks. Suddenly, on a particular stretch of road on which no other cars were present, he noticed that there was a strange animal on his right, on the blacktop. It was very still and had the appearance of an ape, with short arms and long legs. He managed to hit the brakes about 10 meters from this animal, but the simian creature did not make a move and slowly turned its head toward the truck. That’s when the driver noticed that its eyes were sparkling red, and that the configuration or fur on its body was very odd, covered by something similar to short whitish feathers.
The trucker felt a shudder of fear, faced with such an strange situation. He stopped the engine and allowed several seconds to elapse, with the creature staring at him as he quaked with fear. The animal walked slowly and crossed the road, never taking its eyes off the driver. As the witness recalls, the simian entity was thickset, stood approximately over one meter tall, had a head proportioned to its body and a large muzzle. It made no sound whatsoever. At no time did its extremities touch the pavement and it maintained itself upright throughout, like a small man.
The Crypto Crew published a very interesting image of a strange creature in the snow. Titled Did a Trail Camera Catch a Picture of Bigfoot?
Thomas Marcum states “I ran across this rather interesting trail camera photo today. There appears to be a black upright figure in the image. I do not know very much about this picture or who for sure it belongs to. The only name I could find associated with it was an Amanda Young”
Could this be a real Bigfoot? or is it just something else. I will attempt to enhance the picture and tell you more about the back story, even though I don’t know much about it. So, apparently this was taken somewhere in northeast Ohio. It was from some kind of hunting club and one of the members captured this image on trail camera. It is my understanding it was captured in December, I’m guessing, of 2017. The picture was share and finally made it’s way online. I had never seen the picture before today.
Here is my attempt at some enhancements.
Next I did a re index of the image. This show us that the color of the figure is uniform. It also gives us a little hint of possible legs. As for the face, it could just be the snow causing it to look like two eyes and a nose in the picture.
I zoomed in a bit more and sharpened the photo. It appears the figure is sitting down. It could be just snow but it looks like two white eyes and a downward turned mouth. Could it be a hunter in a face mask on?
One last enhancement. I inverted the colors, it kind of makes an negative image of the picture. If you look it appears the legs are in an awkward position or possibly sitting with the legs crossed. You can see a bit more of the shape of the left arm.
Now I have no idea if this is an image of a real Bigfoot or if it is a hunter If you have more information on this possible game camera image of a Bigfoot, then please let us know.
I would like to thank my friend Ellis for send me this amazing article on the Mongolian Wildman. It has a wealth of information for anyone interested in the bipedal creatures that are spoken about worldwide. This article is from a blog called Malcolms Musings and you see the original article with links and images Here
One reason for taking cryptozoology seriously is the possibility that a significant species is going extinct before science has even established its existence. Thus, throughout the boreal forests of Russia, as far as Siberia, legends abound of primates apparently similar to the North American bigfoot. However, if the legends are correct, a wide tract of Central Asia also harbours isolated pockets of a different type of primate: slightly smaller, slightly more social, slightly more manlike (but only slightly). Such, for example, are the almasties of the Caucasus, and possibly the bar manu of Chitral. Peasants still claim to see them in Tajikistan. In Mongolia the term is almas (singular; it is not the plural of “alma”), and the leading researcher used to be Professor Yöngsiyebü-Biambyn Rinchen of Ulaan Baatar (1905 – 1977). The Mongolian alphabets are different to ours, so his surname has also been transliterated as “Rincen” and “Rinčen”, and his initial as “P” and “B”. In any case, in 1964 Prof Rinchen wrote a paper for the Italian journal, Genus in which he claimed that almas were then restricted to an area of 1,000 square kilometres [380 square miles] in his country. The paper can be read online here, the reference being: Rincen, Prof. P. R. (1964) Almas still exist in Mongolia. Genus 20: 186 – 192
The first few pages are concerned mostly with philology. We learn that, as I had originally suspected, nearly all the etymologies given in Ivan T. Sanderson’s Abominable Snowmen are ridiculous. The origin of the word, “almas” is unknown, although it does contribute to quite a few place names, such as Almasyn Ulan Oula, the Red Mountains of Almases.
This account came in to me through email and the gentleman kindly allowed me to share his images and account with you.
I read the recent account with interest I am starting to see that there have been other accounts from the forest of Dean, it helps to know im not alone in what I have seen and experienced down there, as we discussed earlier when I sent my account over to you in email the Dean is a very strange place. I know there have been other strange sightings on the Dean area. During my recent walks in the Forest I have noticed my dog acting strangely, there has been only occasional strange reactions from the dog and sometimes the dog acts strange in completely different areas, not always the same area spooks him but it is out of character enough for me to keep taking note of the dogs behaviour.
This is something that happened to me a couple of weeks ago – 20th of September 18. I regularly walk a Yorkshire Terrier out in the Forest, he is a rescue dog and doesn’t like other dogs so I walk him alone and off the normal dog walking paths. He tries to fight any dog that he meets so I have to keep him on the lead. He is totally fearless, it doesn’t matter to him if it’s a Rottweiler, Pit bull or German Shepherd, he will try and have a go despite his size. Owners of Yorkshire terriers would no doubt agree.
Anyway, I am very familiar with the large local wildlife, Fallow deer, Roe deer, Muntjac deer of course the hundreds of Wild Boar now living there which I see them regularly. (the wild boar population in the Forest of Dean is becoming a pandemic problem)
On this day I was walking down a forest track about 2 miles out of Cinderford when unusually, the dog started acting in a scared and nervous manner, he was cowering behind me which has never happened before. I couldn’t think of anything that would spook him this much so I managed to get him to continue down the path for a little way. Shortly after this as Im pulling the dog along Three Wild Boar crossed the path at speed about 30 feet in front of us but as usual the dog ignored them it was something else spooking him.
I calmed him down and we slowed pace and kept on with the walk, but several minutes later, the dog started to become agitated again, once again he refused to continue with the walk he was trying to go back the way we had come. I looked around to see what could be causing this reaction and I saw a face looking at me about 100 yards away in the woods, it was just looking at me and the dog, it didn’t move or do anything. So I pulled out my phone and took a picture on maximum zoom. The dog refused to carry on so I left with him not looking back as we went back the way we came.
I have been back down that path several times since the incident and on Three occasions the dog has showed signs of anxiety again but I saw nothing, no one watching from the trees that I could make out?. I did find some stick structures nearby, but think they were probably man made. Please look at the pictures and see what you think. When your looking at them keep in mind that the ferns that the creature is standing in are 4-5 feet tall. It looks like it is standing hunched over and I thought it was possibly canine.
I m one of those people that talks to animals – I say hello to deer, boar even squirrels when I see them as I walk along. When I first saw the face looking at me, I said aloud “I can see you” and I even waved at it thinking it must be a deer or a boar. It was after looking at the face for a while that I realised it was neither got my phone out.
I think it was watching or stalking the boar I had seen minutes before and the face when I saw it was down in the ferns. I think I might have blown it’s cover that’s why it raised itself out of the ferns. I have never felt threatened whilst walking that path, in fact it is a favourite of mine due to the wildlife I encounter – although lately the wildlife seems to have left the area. I do tend to talk aloud on that path (if there is no one around) saying “just passing through and I mean you no harm.” I have not changed my routine and I still walk the path both alone and with the dog but I do get the eerie feeling of being watched sometimes. The path is only about a quarter of a mile away from the popular Sculpture Trail which attracts thousands of visitors every year. If anything, I feel privileged to have seen it and I have never heard of any similar sightings that it could be ( the usual big cat sightings are reported and I have seen one myself, along with occasional sheep kills) but I couldn’t explain what kind of creature this was, other than to say it was hair covered and looked like a canine.
My mind goes back to a Sunday morning in October this year when I was just passing through the area of the encounter, I came across 3 or 4 men, each with several dogs and long lens cameras. They were criss crossing the area – not on the paths but in the wooded sections they seemed to be searching for something ?- maybe others have seen something? Since then, contractors for the Forestry Commission have been nearby, felling trees which would have scared off any wildlife. Please use any information I have given you as you see fit, including the photo’s and my experience. I will continue to monitor the area and I will let you know if I see anything else.
As mentioned there are other reports in the Forest of Dean and you can access them here on THE MAP
Wye Valley Weirdness
Back in 1994 I was at a long weekend church camp in a cabin up in the Wye Valley. At night my friend and I (we were 17 and 16) were taking a stroll and just joking around. We were walking along a path slightly above the stream. On the other side of us was a steep hill covered in trees and brambles. As we were walking we heard deep heavy footsteps tromping parallel with us but up on the hill. At first I just thought it was an echo of our own footsteps but then I realised we were both wearing trainers and walking on a smooth tarmac stretch of track. When we stopped,”it” stopped, and it wasn’t until it stepped on some rotten wood and made a huge cracking noise that we realised there was something very, very heavy up there. But the terrain was so steep and so matted with trees and bushes there was no way a man could walk so steadily paced across it. Then the hairs on my neck started standing on edge. It wasn’t a threatening feeling but we knew we were being watched. We about turned and pegged it. But the footsteps didn’t follow. My friend later suggested it may have been a deer but this thing was bipedal and those footsteps were HEAVY – despite it walking on soft forest debris.
The Dragging Footsteps at Mitchell Troy
A married couple out walking late at night heard footsteps dragging behind them that they could not explain. When they stopped, the footsteps stopped. When a car approached the area the sounds were coming from and illuminated the area, no other person could be seen walking.
River Severn is home to more than just one “creature”! Man sees strange creature running low to the ground.
My name is Simon Austin and I am from Coleford near Gloucester, I have lived here all my life . I never knew where to report my encounter until a friend of mine told me about Mark Farnell a friend of his, who follows sightings of unexplainable creatures like Bigfoot.
I work in Staunton, one morning I woke at 05.00am and got myself ready for work. As I was driving down scowles road heading for the A4136 highway, keeping in mind there was very little to no traffic I approached a left turn junction, near stowfield quarry at that point my car was hit by a small log or branch. In shock I looked to my right from where the sound emitted from and what I saw was frightening to say the least. I witnessed a creature sprinting towards me on all fours; at least that’s what I thought until it came closer. It was running on two legs but low to the floor. It resembled a dog but had a long snout but was much taller and was very thin. I accelerated off as fast as I could.
The creature was black in colour and had frosted eyes. I have never seen anything like this before and hope I don’t see it again.
I hope this helps in anyway.
Pop over to the map and take a look for yourself, if you follow the Estuary and River you will see a multitude of reports.
This sightings report arrived last week via e-mail, and is yet another example of eyewitnesses around the globe claiming to have seen werewolf-like creatures. I haven’t received any from Finland before this, so it was a welcome surprise. Both the witness and the person who wrote the story out for her desire anonymity, so the writer refers to her friend by the pseudonym, “Aino.” She also included a map of the general area. In her own words:
I wanted to tell you a werewolf sighting my very good friend had when she was a kid. This happened in Finland. I will tell the story in as much in detail as possible, but I don’t want to reveal my friend’s identity. What I can tell about my friend, she doesn’t like to share her encounter with others. I’m one of the few – if not honestly the only one – to whom she has told her story. I have known my friend “Aino” for almost 20 years. She has told me this story a few times and it never changes.
This incident happened when Aino was 8-9, so around 1995-1996 in North-East Finland. I have added here a map of the sighting’s location.
Her family has lived in the same place for 300 years. The house is big wooden house with two entrances on both ends of the house. There’s an old barn and a shed in the front yard, and a traditional old Finnish sauna next to a lake. The house resides next to a lake, surrounded by hay and rye fields. In a small distance, there’s a thick spruce forest. The area is very, very rural with only a few tens of people living in it. Most of the forest and the nature overall around the area is untouched. If it matters, my friend’s family back then had a horse, cats and also apparently chickens. She’s told me that when she was young, they had many animals like cats, chickens and goats. I can assure that they had horses and cats back in 95-96, but I assume they also had chickens when this incident happened.
